Animals at the Coronado Animal Care Facility now have a dedicated full-time veterinary technician watching over their health.

PAWS of Coronado announced Tuesday, Aug. 18, that Jennifer Hubbard, a Registered Veterinary Technician with 15 years of experience, has joined the nonprofit's staff. It is the organization's first full-time RVT hire, according to the Coronado Times. The position adds daily medical expertise to an organization that operates Coronado's animal shelter under contract with the city.

The role is hands-on. Hubbard's responsibilities include assisting with medical assessments and treatments, monitoring animals in recovery, coordinating veterinary care, maintaining medical records and providing individualized attention to each animal.

Executive Director Jackie Williams said Hubbard's 15-year tenure in veterinary medicine and her compassion for animals made her a strong fit for the team. "Having a full-time Registered Veterinary Technician on our team allows us to recognize medical concerns earlier, respond more quickly, and provide greater continuity of care for every animal that comes through our doors," Williams said.

Hubbard joins a small professional staff that includes Daniel Barbour, DVM, senior manager of veterinary services, and Chancel Siebuhr, behavior and animal transition manager.

PAWS of Coronado, a 501(c)(3) nonprofit established in 2003, operates the Coronado Animal Care Facility at 1395 1st St. on behalf of the City of Coronado. The facility is open daily from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. and closed on federal holidays. All animals in PAWS' care are spayed or neutered, microchipped, vaccinated and current on flea prevention before adoption.
