Hotel del Coronado is putting up $8,000 as presenting sponsor of the 17th annual A Taste of Coronado on Wednesday, Oct. 7.

It marks the fourth straight year the Del has anchored the island's signature food event, according to the Coronado Times. The Coronado Junior Woman's Club (CJWC) hosts the self-guided tour, which sends more than 900 guests through local restaurants, bars and shops by foot, bicycle or trolley.

This year's proceeds will benefit Promises2Kids and its Guardian Scholars program, which helps current and former foster youth in San Diego County pursue college or trade school. Promises2Kids has served foster youth in the county since 1981. Its Guardian Scholars program has provided scholarships to more than 300 young people, and over 90% of those scholars are first-generation college graduates.

Over the past five years, 63% of the program's participants graduated college, compared with a national average of 8–12% for former foster youth, Promises2Kids CEO Tonya Torosian said in an Aug. 3 Coronado Times article announcing the partnership.

"Every contribution helps us empower children and young adults to overcome challenges and build brighter futures," Torosian said at the time.

The nonprofit serves more than 2,000 current and former foster youth each year through programs including Guardian Scholars, Camp Connect, Foster Futures, mentoring and emergency financial assistance.

Sara Stillman and Samantha O'Brien, co-chairs of A Taste of Coronado, said in August that the event draws both longtime attendees and first-time guests. Proceeds support foster youth programs across the county as well as CJWC programs throughout the year.

The evening features tastings from island restaurants and bars, live music along the route and stops at local boutiques. A VIP Experience is also available.
