Registration is open for the Crown Cup Doubles Tournament, Coronado's only locally affiliated tennis competition, set for Saturday, Sept. 12, and Sunday, Sept. 13.

The Coronado Tennis Association's annual two-day event features men's, women's and mixed doubles divisions across multiple skill levels, according to the Coronado Times. The Coronado Eagle & Journal describes the tournament as popular, fun and competitive, with limited space available.

Players can enter men's doubles or women's doubles at the 3.0–3.5 or 4.0–4.5 National Tennis Rating Program levels. Mixed doubles teams compete at combined ratings of 7.0 or 8.0. Participants must be available both days of competition.

Entry costs $35 per player per event for Coronado residents and $45 for nonresidents. Every participant is guaranteed at least two matches through consolation draws, and the weekend includes food, refreshments, prizes and awards.

Players who do not have a doubles partner can contact the association to be matched with a teammate.

All entry fees go to the nonprofit Coronado Tennis Association, which funds youth tennis programs and supports the broader Coronado tennis community. The organization is led locally by Duane Weekly, who serves as the tournament contact.

Winners receive a special prize and get their names added to the Crown Cup trophy, which is displayed year-round in the Coronado Tennis Center Clubhouse. The trophy tradition gives the tournament its name and offers returning competitors a shot at permanent recognition on the hardware.

Players can register or find more information at coronadotennis.org, by emailing [email protected] or by calling Weekly at 619-857-8597. The registration deadline was not listed, but organizers urged early sign-ups given limited capacity.
