Coronado kids who want structured, competitive pickleball no longer need to leave the island.

Impact Active announced the Coronado Youth Pickleball League, an eight-team doubles league that will run Tuesdays at 4 p.m. from Sept. 15 through Nov. 3 at the Coronado Cays Park courts. Registration costs $150 per player. It closes Sunday, Aug. 30.

"We are really trying to offer something to juniors and seeing if they are interested in playing some structured and competitive pickleball without having to travel," Joel Myers, general manager and director of rackets for Impact Active, told the Coronado Eagle & Journal.

The league is Coronado's first structured junior pickleball league. Teams will be co-ed, and Bryan Conway will oversee match play and day-to-day operations. Before the regular season begins, an instructional practice session will cover official scoring and rules.

Myers said the league is modeled on Impact Active's existing Tuesday junior tennis program. The eight-week regular season will be followed by a playoff bracket, though the exact format has not been finalized.

"It depends on our total numbers and total teams; it could be playing in a tournament or a knockout, but it really does depend on what we get," Myers said. "It's just so new to us we don't know what we have yet."

The league targets intermediate to advanced players, but Myers encouraged beginners to sign up too, noting that pickleball's learning curve is short. Impact Active's pros can help newcomers with scoring and paddle basics before the season starts.

The courts at Coronado Cays Park, located at 16 Bahama Bend on Silver Strand Boulevard, feature dedicated outdoor pickleball courts with permanent lines and nets, according to the city's parks page. The park is described as one of the busiest in Coronado and is frequently used for youth sports.

Nationally, pickleball participation hit 24.3 million players in 2025, up 479% since 2020, according to the Sports & Fitness Industry Association. USA Pickleball and Boys & Girls Clubs of America launched a partnership in April 2026 to expand youth access to the sport.
