Coronado suicide prevention nonprofit Cade's Day will host a NASCAR viewing party at McP's Irish Pub on Saturday, Aug. 29, as driver Daniel Dye races in the Cup Series regular-season finale at Daytona International Speedway.
The race starts at 4:30 p.m. Pacific.
Dye, 22, is entered in the Coke Zero Sugar 400 driving the No. 78 Chevrolet for Live Fast Motorsports, according to Motorsport.com. He is listed as an open entry, meaning he must qualify to start. If he makes the field, Daytona will be his fourth career Cup Series start.
Dye grew up in Daytona Beach and has partnered with Cade's Day through his Race to Stop Suicide initiative. In an announcement posted this week, the organization said Dye has spoken about his connection to Coronado, citing the island's military presence and its community of service members.
Cade's Day has awarded more than 115 scholarships and reached thousands of students and families through programs including Cade's Track, which uses motorsports events and outreach to build community connections, according to the nonprofit's website.
The organization also partners with Strength in Service, a Coronado-based nonprofit that provides mental health support to active-duty service members, veterans, military spouses and their families. Crystal Bettenhausen-Bubulka, a licensed clinical social worker and military spouse, founded Strength in Service and opened its first Coronado office in 2023. In a November 2025 profile in the Coronado Eagle & Journal, she said: "I started Strength in Service because the system failed my family. Now we are making sure it doesn't fail anyone else's."
Saturday's viewing party at McP's, 1107 Orange Ave., leads into Cade's Day's main annual event, scheduled for Saturday, Sept. 12, at the same location. Registration for the Sept. 12 event begins at 11 a.m. and will feature live music, guest speakers and prizes.
