Tess Gerritsen, the New York Times bestselling author whose novels inspired the television series Rizzoli & Isles, will appear at the Coronado Public Library on Monday, Aug. 31, at 6:30 p.m. to discuss her newest thriller, The Shadow Friends, according to the library's event listing.
The event, held in the library's Winn Room, is free and open to the public. Seating is first-come, first-seated.
Gerritsen is a San Diego native who has sold more than 40 million books worldwide across more than 31 novels, translated into 40 languages. Her 1996 medical thriller Harvest marked her debut on the New York Times bestseller list, and she has won both the Nero Wolfe Award and the Rita Award. She is also a retired physician and filmmaker, having directed the documentary Magnificent Beast and the horror film Island Zero.
The Shadow Friends, published Aug. 25, is the third installment in Gerritsen's Martini Club series. The books follow a group of retired CIA spies living in small-town Maine who keep getting pulled back into the world of espionage. In this entry, a renowned disease expert and Russian defector dies mysteriously during a global affairs conference, drawing the former spies into a web of Cold War secrets and international intrigue.
Amazon is developing the Martini Club series for television, according to the Portland Press Herald.
At the Coronado event, Gerritsen will discuss her writing inspirations and the craft of mystery storytelling, followed by an audience Q&A and book signing, according to the Coronado News. Limited preferred seating is available with the purchase of a book through Adventures by the Book, a San Diego-area literary event company.
