Families considering the Coronado School of the Arts (CoSA) can see the program up close at a free Showcase Night on Nov. 4 at the Coronado Performing Arts Center, 650 D Ave.
The evening doubles as a community arts celebration and an admissions open house for the 2027-28 school year. According to CoSA's applications page, online applications go live Nov. 2.
The start time is listed differently by two sources. The Coronado Times reported the event begins at 6 p.m., while CoSA's own website lists 5:30 p.m. Families should check with the school to confirm.
Attendees can expect live performances by students in dance, musical theatre and drama, and instrumental music. The evening also includes screenings of student films, animations and behind-the-scenes documentaries, according to the Coronado Times. Guests can view sets from the musical Grease, built by Technical Theatre and Production students, and original artwork from the Visual Arts conservatory.
Admission is free. No registration is required.
Karin Mellina, principal of Coronado High School and director of CoSA, said in a statement that the event reflects daily classroom work. "Showcase Night reflects the extraordinary work happening in our classrooms every single day, and we are thrilled to welcome the public to experience it," Mellina said.
Showcase Night host Wendy Alcaraz said the evening offers a glimpse of what CoSA artists do, adding that students want to share their passion and talent with the broader community.
Emma Olson, a senior and president of CoSA Council, said leading the student government has shown her the hard work her peers put into their art across every conservatory.
Any rising ninth-grader or current high school student in San Diego County can apply to CoSA, according to the school's website. Admission is merit-based. The school offers conservatories in classical and contemporary dance, digital arts, instrumental music, musical theatre and drama, theatre production and design, and visual art.
Beyond prospective students, community members can learn about becoming CoSA board members, supporters or patrons of the arts.
CoSA's next admissions event is an Informational Night on Feb. 16, 2027, at 6 p.m. No registration is required for that event. Auditions are scheduled for March 13, 2027, and require a completed application through the school's website.
